	Attorneys Argue over Request for New Robinson Hearing By Blade Staff Toledo Blade January 22, 2010 http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100122/NEWS02/100129887/-1/NEWS TOLEDO (OH) -- Toledo Catholic priest Gerald Robinson, convicted in 2006 of murdering a nun 26 years earlier, appeared by video link from prison for a Lucas County Common Pleas Court hearing Friday morning. Attorneys for the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office and the defense gave oral arguments before Judge Gene Zmuda on whether an evidentiary hearing should be held for the 71-year-old priest. At issue is whether Robinson's attorneys failed to provide effective counsel at the 2006 trial and whether newly discovered evidence merits a new hearing. Judge Zmuda questioned attorneys on both sides on intricate points of law as Robinson watched the proceedings from a chair at Hocking Correctional Facility in Nelsonville, Ohio. The priest, wearing prison issue short-sleeve blue shirt, did not say anything except to acknowledge that he could hear the two-hour courtroom proceedings. Judge Zmuda said he would take the issues under advisement and "render a decision accordingly."
