OPELIKA, Ala. -- A seminar in Opelika on Wednesday discussed how parents, communities and churches can protect children from sexual abuse, according to a report by the Opelika-Auburn News.

Leaders from the faith, legal and law enforcement communities met for a "Crime Prevention in the Church" briefing sponsored by J. Lanier Smith & Co. at the First Baptist Church of Opelika to discuss strategies for preventing sexual abuse of children within the walls of their respective churches and beyond.

"Don't think it can't happen here in our community," attorney Tommy Eden of Capell & Howard P.C. told attendees, according to the report. "A crime like child sexual abuse has no respect for any religious denomination."
