Dr Donal Murray confirmed his resignation to his parishioners this afternoon. Dr Murray, a former auxiliary bishop in Dublin, has been under pressure to quit since the publication of the Murphy Report into clerical child abuse in the Dublin Archdiocese. The report criticised him for his failure to deal with allegations about Fr Thomas Naughton and said the failure was inexcusable. Ms Harkin said Dr Murray did the right thing by resigning but she added that his inaction meant that lives were ruined.
