Media Advisory - Cornwall Inquiry Commissioner Provides Details on Release of Report CNW Group December 13, 2009 http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/December2009/09/c9599.html CORNWALL, ON, Dec. 9 /CNW Telbec/ - The Report of the Cornwall Public Inquiry will be released to the public at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, according to Inquiry Commissioner Normand Glaude. The public release will take place at the Ramada Inn (Simon Fraser Ballroom), 805 Brookdale Ave. in Cornwall. At 11 a.m., Commissioner Glaude will deliver a statement, following which, the Report will be available on the Inquiry's website (www.cornwallinquiry.ca). Printed copies of the Report will also be available to the public on-site, immediately following the Commissioner's statement. After tabling the Report, copies will be available (while quantities last) until Dec. 18 at the Inquiry offices, located at 709 Cotton Mill Street in Cornwall. After Dec. 18, copies and CD-ROMs of the Report will be available for purchase from Publications Ontario (www.serviceontario.ca/publications). The Cornwall Public Inquiry was established by the Government of Ontario on April 14, 2005, under the Public Inquiries Act. The Commission was mandated to inquire into and report on the events surrounding allegations of abuse of young people in Cornwall by examining the response of the justice system and other public institutions to the allegations. In his Report, the Commissioner will make recommendations to improve the response in similar circumstances. As well, the Report will recommend on processes, services and programs that will encourage community healing and reconciliation in Cornwall. Note: There will be a lockup for the media at the Ramada Inn in Cornwall prior to the public release. Details of the lock up are attached and will also be posted in the 'Media' section of the Inquiry website. Details of Media Lock-Up: There will be a lock-up for the media from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Dec. 15. Attendance at the lock-up will be subject to the rules below. Attendees will be required to sign an undertaking prior to entering the lock-up. Attendance at the lock-up is also conditional upon the strict adherence to an electronic device prohibition. The following is the procedure for the lock-up: - Only media representatives from recognized media outlets may attend the lock-up. - The media lock-up will take place in the St. Lawrence East room of the Ramada Inn. - Media outlets may attend with enough reporters as they deem reasonably necessary. - Attendees to the lock-ups will be escorted and/or supervised during the lock-up, at the break and until they are seated for the beginning of the Commissioner's statement. No one may leave the lock-up, except for escorted washroom trips. - Attendees must sign an undertaking agreeing not to discuss or otherwise disseminate any information about the report to anyone until the end of the Commissioner's statement on December 15, 2009. - Attendees must declare and relinquish all cell phones, blackberries, personal digital assistants, pagers, laptops, or other electronic devices. If surrendered to lock-up attendants, they will be returned at the end of the lock-up. - There will be no access to telephones, printers, copiers, scanners or the internet while in the lock-up. - Participants may make handwritten notes that they may take with them when they leave. These notes are subject to the undertaking. Details of the tabling of the report: - The lock-up will end at 10:45 a.m. - The Commissioner's speech will begin - in the Simon Fraser Ballroom - at 11 a.m. - Immediately following the speech, there will be a Q&A with Commission staff for members of the media only for approximately 30 minutes. On-hand to answer questions will be Peter Engelmann, Commission lead counsel; Pierre Dumais, Commission counsel; and Colleen Parrish,director of policy, Phase 2. It is recommended that the media arrive by 7:45 a.m. so that staff may confirm attendance, conduct sign-in procedures and co-ordinate the signing of the undertakings prior to the commencement of the lock-up.
