The HSE National Counselling Service is a free service for any adult who has experienced the trauma of abuse or neglect in childhood.

The Counselling Service Helpdesk is accessible by calling freephone 1800 670 700 between the hours of 8am and 2am.

Helpdesk advisors, who are trained counsellors, will be on hand to take calls and help people to decide which service is the most appropriate one for their needs.

Services include helpline and internet counselling; face to face counselling and advocacy services.

  • Faoiseamh, the Diocesan funded counselling referral service, accessible on freephone 1800 331 234.

Until further notice the helpline will be open as follows:
Monday to Friday 8am to 2am
Saturday and Sunday 11am to 2am

  • Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, accessible on 1800 77 88 88, which offers a 24 hour helpline.
  • Connect, the HSE funded counselling helpline which operates Wednesday to Sunday 6pm to 10pm offering a counselling helpline and internet counselling service freephone 1800 477 477. It has extended it services until 12.30am tomorrow morning.
  • One in Four provides support and resources for women and men who have experienced sexual abuse. Contact number is: 01 6624 070.
  • Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day on 1850 609 090.

All of the agencies are working together to ensure that survivors of abuse can access the service they feel is right for them, either through a helpline or by arranging face to face counselling.

Anyone who wants to report abuse can do so by contacting the gardai or their local HSE Social Services/Work office.
