Superintendent Sues Christian Brothers over Alleged Abuse By Toni Randolph Minnesota Public Radio November 16, 2009 http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/11/16/supt-abuse/ St. Paul, Minn. — A Minnesota school superintendent has filed a fraud suit against a religious order in the Roman Catholic Church, known as the Christian Brothers of the Midwest. In the suit, Tim Caroline says he was sexually abused by Brother Raimond Rose back in the early '70s while he was visiting a Christian Brothers retreat center in Marine on St. Croix. The suit claims that the Christian Brothers knew that Rose had sexually abused children in the 1960s, but took no action. Patrick Noaker, who is representing Caroline, said the Christian Brothers were negligent by not revealing the information. "They represented to both Tim Caroline and his parents, and all those others in the public, that Brother Rose was safe around children because Brother Rose had responsibilities to supervise children," Noaker said. "When they assigned to that position they made that representation to the community that he was safe when they knew full well that he was not safe." The Christian Brothers did not return messages left at the order's Minnesota offices and its headquarters in Chicago. |
