	Numerous Bishops Gave Money to Help Defeat Same-Sex Marriage in Maine Catholic Culture November 12, 2009 http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=4581 Nearly five dozen bishops and dioceses nationwide contributed to the Diocese of Portland's successful efforts to prevent the legalization of same-sex marriage in Maine, according to campaign finance records. The largest contributions came from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Phoenix, each of which donated $50,000 to the effort.
