The Methodist Church of Southern Africa says it has forwarded all allegations of sexual abuse at its Central Methodist Mission in Johannesburg to the National Prosecuting Authority.

Presiding Bishop, Ivan Abrahams says they have also forwarded the information to the Department of Social Development.

The Central Methodist Church, under the watch of Bishop Paul Verryn, has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks to deal with the humanitarian crisis there.

It has also faced a barrage of allegations of sexual and other abuse of women and children at the facility.

Abrahams says they have forwarded all the relevant documentation connected with the abuse claims to the relevant authorities.

He has conceded that the church’s resources have been exhausted due to the massive overcrowding at the beleaguered institution.

“We would welcome the intervention of all government departments and agencies,” he said.

The Bishop has urged anyone with complaints about the church to contact the Methodist Church of Southern Africa.
