Webster County Sheriff Meets with Amish Community Ozarks First October 16, 2009 http://ozarksfirst.com/content/fulltext/?cid=197361 An Amish community in Webster County has a better understanding of the law tonight. Following a molestation case in which two girls were sexually abused, Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole opened up a line of communication between the law and elders of the Amish community. Cole believes two years ago, priests at the Amish church knew Johnny Schwartz was molesting two teens. Instead of calling deputies, they shunned the man accused of crime hoping that would take care of the problem. Court documents show the abuse continued. Cole says the elders now know the role of a priest including how they should report crimes. The Sheriff says more charges could be filed if those priests willfully disobeyed the law. He believes church leaders were receptive to today's meeting. |
