SNAP – the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests – says it was glad to see the jury in Chittenden County Superior Court award a former altar boy $2.2 million in compensatory damages – the largest compensatory damage award yet in a Vermont case of priest sexual abuse. But SNAP says it is unhappy that the jury on Friday did not award punitive damages, which could have increased the money owed by Vermont's Roman Catholic Diocese significantly. It says punitive damages are important to keep the pressure on the church for reform.
