Diocese of Rockville Centre Signs Onto Ethicspoint Reporting System Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre October 9, 2009 http://drvc.org/2009-press-releases/diocese-of-rockville-centre-signs-onto-ethicspoint-reporting-system.html ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – October 1, 2009 – The Diocese of Rockville Centre today announced the implementation of an ethics hotline and reporting program using EthicsPoint, a third-party vendor of reporting systems that enhance ethics and compliance initiatives. The use of the EthicsPoint system enables anyone to report, confidentially and anonymously, issues or concerns relating to criminal, unethical or otherwise inappropriate behaviors, including fraud, conflicts of interest and financial impropriety. The EthicsPoint hotline, which offers both web and phone reporting, allows employees, volunteers, vendors and other interested parties to report concerns regarding a wide-range of suspected unethical behavior by trustees, officers, directors, employees, volunteers, staff, agents or contractors of the diocese. “Persons who are interested in the operations of the diocese should have a confidential avenue by which to report behaviors that fail to meet the highest standards,” said Bishop Murphy. “One such avenue is a confidential reporting hotline operated by an outside organization.” The system implementation was managed by a team led by Ellen Caravella, Director of Internal Audit, Diocese of Rockville Centre, who sought a way to help ensure integrity in the operations of the diocese. “Without reliable reporting mechanisms that offer anonymity, we may not timely, or ever, learn about situations that compromise integrity and, ultimately, the mission of the diocese. By then it’s too late,” said Caravella. “EthicsPoint is one part of our diocesan strategy to operate in accordance with the highest ethical standards possible. It allows us to respond to situations early, which prevents the severe types of harm that criminal and unethical behavior can do.” Any report that is made through EthicsPoint automatically enters a centralized database. EthicsPoint alerts appropriate personnel of the reported situation, which is then investigated through assigned departments within the diocese. EthicsPoint is in use at the Archdiocese of Chicago and other Catholic archdioceses and dioceses in the United States. Reports to EthicsPoint can be filed through a contact center, a website, a manager-submitted form, investigator or auditor reporting, or custom forms. Confidential reports can be filed by clicking on the EthicsPoint logolink located on the diocesan website www.drvc.org or via phone to one of EthicsPoint’s trained specialists at 1-888-371-4694. EthicsPoint is NOT a 911 or Emergency Service. Do not use this site to report events presenting an immediate threat to life or property. Reports submitted through this service may not receive an immediate response. If you require emergency assistance, please contact your local authorities. |
