However, Archbishop Anthony Mancini of the Archdiocese of Halifax said amending the regulations will not solve the problems besetting the clergy, which has been rocked by sex scandals. Mancini stressed there is no simple solution to stop priests from sinning since they are still humans subject to temptation and sin. At the same time, Mancini called for forgiveness in a two=paged letter he read as part of the Sunday mass homily at the St. Mary's Basilica. He said priests and bishops are humans who are also entitled to forgiveness, although Mancini did not name Lahey in the homily. Mancini pointed out mercy is more powerful that anger, and forgiveness stronger than rejection. His homily drew mixed reactions from parishioners. There are reports Lahey is staying at a monastery in Rogerville, New Brunswick. However, the abbot of the monastery said the controversial bishop - who is slated to appear in court on Nov. 4 - is not in Rogersville nor in a Trappist monastery.
