Catholic Bishop to Step down in Antigonish, N.S Canada.com September 27, 2009 http://www.canada.com/Catholic+bishop+step+down+Antigonish/2039463/story.html SYDNEY, N.S. - Bishop Raymond Lahey of the Diocese of Antigonish has resigned. A St. John's, N.L., native, Lahey was a professor of theology at Memorial University in St. John's and is a graduate of St. Paul's University seminary in Ottawa, the Gregorian University in Rome and Cambridge in England. Prior to his appointment in Antigonish, Lahey served as bishop for the Diocese of St. George's on the west coast of Newfoundland. Earlier in his life, he also served as pastor of the Holy Cross Parish in Holyrood, in the Diocese of Grand Falls, St. Peter's Parish in Mount Pearl and the Archdiocese of St. John's, where he was also Vicar-General. An official announcement of Lahey's resignation is expected at mass on Sunday. |
