Social Development Probes Sex Abuse Claims at Methodist Church By Micel Schnehage Eyewitness News September 16, 2009 http://www.eyewitnessnews.co.za/articleprog.aspx?id=22072 The Gauteng Social Development Department says it is in the process of compiling a report on allegations of sexual abuse at the Central Methodist Church in downtown Johannesburg. Earlier this week, Eyewitness News reported that girls were being sexually abused in exchange for toiletries, food and clothes, while young boys were being coerced into committing crime. The department sent a team of social workers to the place of worship on Monday after the reports surfaced. "Once they've come back and given us a report the department will then act on that report and take appropriate action. We don't want to preempt that report so we will wait for them to complete it and then give it to us," said the department's Mandla Sidu. |
