KOCHI: The video tapes of the narcoanalysis tests conducted on the three accused in the Sr Abhaya murder case were telecast by news channels on Monday. The visuals of the narco test went on air after the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court handed over copies of the tapes on Monday to the three accused - Fr Thomas Kottur, Fr Jose Puthrikkayil and Sr Sephy.

Later, the channels had to withdraw the visuals following a directive from the CJM Court prohibiting their telecast. The court order was on the basis of a petition filed by Fr Puthrikkayil. In the video the accused priests and the nun are seen responding to questions in a semi-conscious state. Questions to Sr Sephy and her answers were in Malayalam while the priests communicated in English. As per the visuals telecast by the channels the accused are involved in Sr Abhaya's murder. In the tests conducted on Fr Puthrikkayil, he is seen saying that Sr Abhaya died after she suffered an injury on her head from an object resembling an axe or a hammer. The body was thrown into the well by the three of them, stated Fr Puthrikkayil.

In Sr Sephy's video she admits to having close relations with the two priests and said they (the priests) frequented the convent in the wee hours to see her. Sr Sephy was also seen admitting that she hit Sr Abhaya on the head and that she opened the back door of the convent to let the two priests in. The accused had submitted an application before the CJM Court demanding more documents and evidence and the court ordered the CDs of the narco test to be handed over when the petition was considered on Monday.

The visuals of the narco test went on air at a time when there were disputes over the genuineness of the tapes. The court then directed the CBI to produce the original tapes.

Later, the Centre for Imaging Technology endorsed that the tapes were tampered with and edited. The CBI said C-DIT did not have the expertise to examine forensic videos.
