Green Bay Diocese Says Brother Raimond Rose, Accused of Molesting Children, Never Served in Appleton By Dan Wilson Post-Crescent September 2, 2009 http://www.postcrescent.com/article/20090902/APC0101/909020520/1979 APPLETON — A claim that a Roman Catholic brother accused of molesting boys served in Appleton almost certainly is a case of mistaken identity, say Green Bay diocese officials. Bob Schwiderski, Minnesota director of Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, held a press briefing Monday outside Xavier High School claiming that Brother Raimond Rose served as a teacher at Xavier from 1966 to 1968. But ACES Xavier and diocesan officials say they have no records that Rose ever served in Appleton, though there was a different Brother Raimond at Xavier during that time. A photo of Raimond Rose provided by SNAP shows he is black. A Xavier yearbook photo from that time provided by the diocese shows a Brother Raimond, no last name given, who is white. "We found photos of a Brother Raimond but it certainly didn't bear any resemblance to the photo circulated Monday," said Renae Bauer, assistant communications director for the diocese. Furthermore, Rose's order, the Christian Brothers, has no record of Rose ever being assigned to either Xavier or Appleton Catholic High School. "We have checked our records and reviewed our yearbooks and find no record of a Brother Raimond Rose," ACES Xavier President Tony Abts said Tuesday. "We have also contacted alumni from that era and no one has a recollection of a Brother Raimond Rose." Schwiderski said he is sticking to his assertion. "I am standing by what I have until someone can prove we have two brother Raimonds in the Christian Brothers in Wisconsin," he said. Schwiderski forwarded photocopies of three Post-Crescent articles from that time period that mention a "Brother Raimond" at Xavier High School. None of the articles included a photograph or listed a last name for the Brother Raimond mentioned in the accounts. Bauer said it was not uncommon for men in the same religious order who are consecrated in the same year to take the same first name. SNAP is seeking out people who may have been victims of Raimond Rose, now 76, and living in Chicago. Rose has never been charged with any criminal acts.
