Students at a Bathurst high school were allegedly forced to engage in group sex and were hypnotised to have intercourse with teachers, in what has been described as a culture of "rampant pedophilia", a court has heard.

The allegations were heard during a bail application by Brian Spillane, a former chaplain at St Stanislaus' College.

Spillane, 66, was yesterday charged with an additional 32 charges of indecently assaulting 11 people.

These bring a total of 146 charges against Spillane, relating to 27 alleged victims.

The Downing Centre Local Court today heard that an informant, known as "Witness A", alleged he had seen Spillane sexually and indecently assaulting "various students" during prayer sessions, the court heard.

Witness A alleged he witnessed Spillane engaging in sexual activity with students in a shower block, the court heard.

Prosecutor Beth Walker told the court the Director of Public Prosecutions strongly opposed bail.

"In my submission, your honour, the brief of evidence paints a picture of rampant pedophilia," she said.

"The court would be entitled to hold concerns, strong concerns, for the possibility of further offences being committed because, if the conduct which has been alleged by these complainants is in fact true, it would suggest that the defendant, Spillane, is an untreated pedophile and therefore presents as a continuing risk to children within the community."

Magistrate Jane Culver is expected to determine bail today.

At least nine people have been charged by Strike Force Belle, which was set up to investigate allegations of sexual and indecent assault against students at two Bathurst schools between 1960 and 1993.
