It wasn't hard to find people who tuned in for Bishop Martino's resignation announcement. Reaction to the bishop's resignation was mixed.

"People will look back and say he did what he needed to do," said Mary Lou Scoblick of Archbald.

Just before noon Mass at Saint Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Eynon, Mary Lou and Jim Scoblick who said it's a shame to see Bishop Joseph Martino go after the changes he's made within the Diocese of Scranton.

"A very well-developed, well-formulated plan. The church is going to come back together again the way it should be and the way it can be most efficient, most productive, reaching out to more of the people," said Jim Scoblick.

Not everyone had the same positive outlook after the consolidation and closure of more than 100 churches in the diocese and closures of a number of Catholic schools.

"I really think they should reconsider that. Those are schools that have been around for a while and the kids look forward to going to those schools," said Tabitha Tziuzas of Archbald.

Gloria Miraglia attends Saint Mary's Assumption Church in Jessup. She thinks Bishop Martino made the wrong choice in closing the churches, including hers.

"(I was) raised in that church. Baptism, communion, confirmation, got married, it's very hard but sometimes you have to go with the change. It's hard, but we'll make it," Miralia said.

We even found non-Catholics who have followed bishop Martino's tumultuous term.

"He was at odds with the community with what he was doing, so I guess that led to bad health," said Jim Valentine of Archbald.
