No Charges for Controversial Red Springs Priest The News & Observer August 29, 2009 http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/1666670.html The Robeson County District Attorney's Office has concluded its investigation of a Red Springs Roman Catholic priest and says no charges will be filed. The office said earlier this week that it had reviewed an allegation that Father Walter Ospina of Iglesia Catolica San Andres in Red Springs acted inappropriately. The office did not specify what the allegation was or who made it. "Based upon our review, there was insufficient amount of evidence to warrant prosecution," said Joe Osman, who handled the case for the District Attorney's Office. On Aug. 16, members of the parish padlocked Ospina out of the church. Many Hispanic Roman Catholics who worship at the church are unhappy with the priest. They say he does not make time for them, he's disrespectful and a poor communicator. Ospina, 33, could not be reached for comment, but he has denied doing anything wrong. Frank Morock, a spokesman for the Raleigh Diocese, said Ospina would remain pastor until a review of parishioners' concerns has been completed. |
