CUMBERLAND, MD - A priest in Cumberland is on leave as church officials investigate allegations that he sexually abused a minor more than thirty years ago.

In a press release, the Archdiocese of Baltimore said that Monsignor Thomas Bevan denied the accusations in a meeting with church officials on August 19th.

That same day, according to the release, the Archdiocese removed him from the ministry at St. Patrick Catholic Church pending an investigation.

The alleged victim says the abuse occurred in the mid 1970s, when Monsignor Bevan was an associate pastor at St. John's Catholic Church in Frederick.

This is the second time Monsignor Bevan has been accused; another alleged victim came forward in 2005, saying he was abused during the same time period.

Representatives from the Archdiocese met Sunday morning with parishioners and staff at St. Patrick's to inform them of the allegations.

Authorities in Frederick County have been notified and are also investigating.
