Bankrupt Diocese Begs for Nationwide Donations to Cover Attorney Fees Catholic Culture August 19, 2009 http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=3824 The Diocese of Fairbanks, which filed for bankruptcy in 2008 amid 300 sexual-abuse lawsuits, is sending a special fundraising appeal to 55,000 Catholics nationwide. “The clock is always ticking on attorney fees,” said the chancellor of the north Alaskan diocese. “I know we have incurred more than $2 million in fees to date and part has been paid from a loan and proceeds from the sale of property.” The Diocese of Fairbanks has 14,500 Catholics in 45 parishes. Nine diocesan priests and 12 religious priests currently minister there. |
