A Buckeye pastor accused of using his position to sexually abuse women in his congregation pleaded guilty Monday to sexual conduct with a minor, authorities said.

Charles L. Carfrey, 59, pleaded guilty to two counts of the Class 6 felony, along with one count of failure to register as a sex offender, a Class 4 felony, according to Maricopa County Superior Court records.

Carfrey, pastor of The Lord's House Church, near Fourth Street and Eason Avenue in Buckeye, has been in custody since March 20 when he was arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing several women during counseling sessions in 2004 and '05, including a girl who was 17 at the time.

Buckeye police started investigating Carfrey in 2005, when one victim came forward, but police said they were unable to gather enough evidence to arrest him. The case was reopened in February, when detectives obtained evidence that there were more victims.

Carfrey started as a pastor in Oregon in 1990, moved to Arizona in the mid-1990s and settled in Buckeye in 2000 or 2001, police said. He allegedly fondled adult and teenage women in both states during counseling sessions, police said.

He was convicted in Oregon of sexually assaulting his daughter in 1988, and served five years with jail and probation time combined, police said. He was released from probation in 1993.

Carfrey's sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
