MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (WPIX) - A man from Massapequa who calls himself a "bishop" in the traditional Roman Catholic Church," but who has no religious affiliation, was charged with performing a sexual act on a minor.

According to Nassau County police, Dennis McCormack, 41, who reportedly advertises traditional services from an American Legion Hall in Plainview, was caught on tape July 14 performing a sex act on a person under the age of 19.

Police arrested McCormack, of 42 William Rd., Wednesday and charged him with criminal sexual act in the third degree and child endangerment.

He appeared before a judge Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead where he was reportedly arraigned on $150,000 bond or $100,000 cash bail.

McCormack had a Web site that advertises services out of the American Legion Hall in Plainview, police said.

A spokesman for the Diocese of Rockville Centre said McCormack is not a priest and has no ties to the diocese.
