The defense in the rape case against Roman Catholic Priest Enel Almeus produced evidence that he was courted by his accuser.

Father Almeus was yesterday freed of a rape charge.

The Haitian born of the Holy Ghost Father’s Church was found not guilty by a nine member jury which took about two hours to deliberate.

The woman is the wife of a police officer.

It was alleged that in March 2004 the woman was raped by the priest at St. Mary’s college in Port of Spain.

The state said father almeus had sexual intercourse with the woman without her consent.

But at the start of the trial he maintained that the sex was consensual.

Evidence showed that his accuser had called him eighty-four times on her cell phone within a six month period and at one time even drove him to the lady young road lookout.

The defense showed that the woman gave the priest gifts and they shared kisses three days before the consensual sex occurred.

Under cross examination the woman denied giving the gifts to the priest.

However the defense produced a shaving set and a pen with the woman’s name engraved on it.

She is said to have also drove him to the lookout and then to the car park of a nearby hotel.

The woman said it was in the car park that Father Almeus forced himself on her.

In his testimony the priest said she visited him in his room at the school and they had sex.
