Paul Lewis, 45, was questioned in the presence of his attorney Michael Erskine Wednesday and later charged with carnal abuse and indecent assault for an alleged incident involving a 15-year-old girl. The pastor is accused of carrying out the act at a hotel in the western city of Negril.
Lewis, who was born in Jamaica but lives in New York, was arrested on Sunday just as he was about to preach at a crusade. A profile on his website said "God has called him and anointed him to preach, deliver and minister through the power of the spirit. Blind eyes have been opened, deaf ears unstopped, tumours dissolved, and more, the all salvation has come to many". It added that Lewis is a recognised evangelist "with a prophetic spiritual insight into God's words. He is sought after by ministries and churches worldwide. He travels extensively throughout North America, Africa, the West Indies, Europe and England preaching in various churches and tent crusades". Lewis is the founder and president of The Messengers For Christ Ministries World Healing Center based in New York, which has offices in Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua, Trinidad, The United Kingdom and Germany. |
