VERO BEACH, FL (WFLX) - A former priest, school board candidate and father of 11 is jailed over possession of child pornography.

Gerald Lamothe, the owner of the Pastoral Counseling Center in Vero Beach, has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography after a passerby noticed the kiddie porn sitting on his computer.

The Pastoral Counseling Center is located on Airport Drive West in Vero Beach.

Back in February, the Vero Beach Police Department got a call staying that there was a computer monitor at the center which was displaying child pornography. The business was closed, but the monitor was visible through a window with the blinds open.

When officers arrived, they also saw the child porn and said, "On the monitor screen, in plain view, was an image depicting a child estimated to be approximately 4 to 5 years old, engaged in a sexual act."

Detectives responded to the scene and later obtained a search warrant for the business.

At 1:57 a.m. on Valentine's Day, the business owner, Gerald Lamothe, arrived at the Center and denied having any knowledge of the image on his computer.

The computer equipment was seized by the police department for forensic examination by the Department of Homeland Security.

On May 15, the forensic examination was completed and the evidence was returned to the Vero Beach Police Department.

Within the evidence were numerous images depicting children, who appeared to be under the age of 18, performing sexual acts or lewd acts with and without adults.

On Tuesday, Detectives got an arrest warrant for Gerald J. Lamothe charging him with one count of possession of child pornography.

Lamothe was placed under arrest at the center Thursday. Lamothe refused to speak with detectives and invoked his right to speak to an attorney.

Gerald J. Lamothe was booked and taken to the Indian River County Jail. His bond is set at $10,000.
