Pell Examines Irish Child Abuse Links ABC News May 27, 2009 http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/05/27/2582614.htm?section=australia The Archbishop of Sydney, Cardinal George Pell, says a report on 60 years of child sex abuse in Irish Catholic schools and homes is being examined to see if any of those accused work for the church in Australia. The Irish Child Abuse Commission inquiry has found sex and violent abuse of boys was "endemic" and girls were also abused. Australian victims' group Broken Rites says the report raises concerns about Irish clergy members living Australia. But Cardinal Pell says he thinks there is very little chance any of those investigated in the report are working for the church in Australia. "We have people who are working through the report just to check it," he said. "I do know that our national authorities are going to contact the legal authorities who prepared the report to ask if there are any connections here." |
