The preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday for a Salinas parish priest facing child-molestation charges has been postponed until next month.

Monterey County Superior Court Judge Terrance Duncan announced in court today that the hearing that will determine whether the Rev. Antonio Cortes will stand trial has been moved to June 5. It's the second time his preliminary hearing has been delayed.

Cortes, who was arrested on April 16, is charged with three felony counts of sodomy of a person under the age of 18 and possession of child pornography and 12 misdemeanor counts of child cruelty, providing alcohol to a minor, child molestation and immoral acts before a child.

Eugene Martinez, a Salinas lawyer, has joined Miguel Hernandez, and son J. Hernandez as co-counsel in representing Cortes in the case.

The parish priest has been suspended from his duties at St. Mary of The Nativity Catholic Church, 1702 Second Ave., Salinas.

About 50 of Cortes' supporters attended his hearing this morning.
