The 35-year-old former pastor of a Western Grove church charged with incest pleaded guilty as charged in March and was sentenced to prison last Friday in Boone County Circuit Court.

Jason William Dubwig, 35, was accused of having intercourse with a 17-year-old girl, who court documents identify as his adopted daughter.

"She said [Dubwig] asked her several times not to tell anyone because he could get into a lot of trouble and that he would ask her to continue the intimate relationship," an arrest affidavit said.

But in late July, the affidavit said, Dubwig and his wife called juvenile officer Donna Nolan to explain that he'd had sex with the girl and could no longer stand the guilt. That same day he also confided in a deacon at the Amazing Grace Baptist Church and said that he planned to confess to the church and resign as pastor.

The following Sunday, Nolan accompanied Dubwig to church.

"During the services that morning," the affidavit said, "[Dubwig] did confess to the church that he had been 'inappropriate' with the 17-year-old female victim with the congregation present in the fellowship hall."

After his guilty plea in March, his sentencing was set for a later date so officials could do a pre-sentencing report.

The report showed that Dubwig and the victim's accounts of the night in question differed although Dubwig had told officials that he accepted full responsibility for his actions.

But it also said the incident might not have been an isolated one and he might not have come forward had one of the victim's younger siblings not overheard Dubwig and the victim talking about that night and confided in Dubwig's wife.

Incest is a Class C felony, punishable by three to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000 or a combination of both.

Records show he was sentenced to five years in prison. Imposition of another five years in prison was suspended based on good behavior and no further violations.

He was also ordered to pay a $500 fine, court costs of $150, a sex offender registration fee of $250, a DNA collection fee of $250, a warrant service fee of $50 and a booking fee of $20.

He was ordered to have no further contact with the victim, either directly or through a third party.

As an additional condition of the plea agreement, he was ordered to reimburse the victim or any entity paying on behalf of the victim for any counseling she attends that is specifically related to the facts and circumstances of the case.

Boone County Jail officials said this morning that Dubwig was being held there awaiting transport to prison.
