The lawyer for a sixth man facing charges of sexual misconduct at a Catholic boarding school in central western NSW says his client intends to defend the charges.

For a few months in 1990, Kevin Phillips, 58, was a member of the Vincentian community at St Stanislaus Catholic College in Bathurst.

He was also a part-time teacher and sports coach.

On Tuesday, Phillips, who now resides in Mackay in Queensland, appeared before Magistrate William Brydon at Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney, charged with attempting homosexual intercourse by a teacher on a student, committing a gross act of indecency and supplying a prohibited drug.

He was arrested on Monday in Sydney by officers attached to Strike Force Belle, which is investigating allegations of sexual assault on students at St Stanislaus and All Saints College, also at Bathurst, between 1960 and 1993.

On Tuesday, Mr Brydon granted Phillips conditional bail until his case is next mentioned on June 23.

Because he resides in Mackay, he is excused from attending the session.

Outside court his lawyer, Greg Walsh, told reporters he would defend the charges.

Phillips is the sixth man from St Stanislaus to face charges of sexual misconduct.

Last year former school chaplain Brian Joseph Spillane, former principal Peter William Dwyer, former vice-principal John Gaven, former teacher Philip John Robson and former assistant dormitory master Richard John McPhillamy were also arrested for allegedly sexually abusing students.

Their cases are all still before the courts.
