	Fewer Charges Expected for Child Sex Accused Priest ABC News April 29, 2009 http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/04/30/2556757.htm Defence lawyers for a Hunter Valley Catholic priest, accused of molesting 40 boys, will spend the next three weeks negotiating to have some of the charges dropped. John Sidney Denham, 66, is currently facing 134 child sex offences. But in Newcastle Local Court yesterday, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said it expects a number of charges will be withdrawn or merged, once the 40 alleged victims give further evidence. Jillian Kelton from the office of the DPP sought an adjournment to May 20. Most of the alleged offences occurred at a Newcastle Catholic high school during the 1970s. Denham is one of three Hunter Valley Catholic priests arrested by Strike Force Georgiana, which has laid more than 170 charges against four members of the clergy over the past year. Denham is awaiting trial for the alleged child sex offences.
