The Most Reverend Robert Cunningham, who's been the bishop of the Ogdensburg Diocese for the last five years, was named Tuesday to succeed the retiring James Moynihan as bishop of Syracuse. Cunningham is already speaking out on social, legal and local issues. At his introductory news conference, the new bishop apologized for a touch of laryngitis, but quickly found his voice in opposition to a pair of bills now before the state legislature. One would temporarily remove the statute of limitations on sex abuse allegations, allowing victims to sue for crimes allegedly committed decades ago.
