	Ex-priest Back in Prison By Kate Thayer The Chronicle April 10, 2009 http://www.kcchronicle.com/articles/2009/04/09/80330366/index.xml Former Geneva priest Mark Campobello returned to prison this week, following a technical disturbance of his parole. Campobello, who pleaded guilty in 2004 to sexually abusing two teenage girls while he served as a priest, arrived Wednesday at Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, said Derek Schnapp, Illinois Department of Corrections spokesman. Schnapp said Campobello, 44, was taken back into custody because he did not have an IDOC-approved “host site.” A host site is any approved place of residence for a parolee. He could not specify why Campobello, who was living in Crystal Lake last year, no longer had an approved home. Schnapp said if Campobello finds a place to live, the IDOC approves, the review board could consider his release. Campobello was placed on parole in February 2008 after serving more than three years of his four year prison sentence. In April 2008, he went back to prison after a technical parole violation, staying about three months. The Prisoner Review Board found Campobello violated parole because he made additional stops on an approved road trip. The Vatican expelled Campobello from the priesthood after his conviction. Campobello was convicted of sexually abusing two girls while he was a priest at St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva and Aurora Central Catholic High School. The two girls, then 14 and 15, are now in their 20s. Their families sued the Rockford Diocese, resulting in a $2.2 million settlement. The lawsuit alleged the diocese did not conduct adequate background checks before taking on Campobello. Campobello is scheduled to be released from parole in November 2011.
