The incident occurred at the woman's Santa Cruz (E) residence on Tuesday. The 27-year-old priest, Kirti Natrajan, persuaded the woman to allow him to perform a puja to better her education prospects. The tantrik arrived at her residence in the afternoon and asked her to remove her clothes as he wanted to do the puja after applying curd on her body. It was then that he molested her. He ended by telling her that the act had to be repeated for the next three days for "best results". The girl later confided in her mother, following which they decided to lodge a complaint against the tantrik with the Vakola police. The girl had completed her diploma in travel and tourism and wanted to go in for higher studies. "The girl and her mother used to visit a temple in Vakola regularly. During one such visit, the girl's mother showed her daughter's kundali (horoscope) to the Natrajan," said assistant commissioner of police, Arvind Mahabdi. "Natrajan told them that the girl's planets were not favourably aligned and were obstructing her progress," said Mahabdi. Natrajan had been working at the temple for the past seven months.
