The pastor of a St. Joseph church pleaded not guilty this morning to charges that he used a Facebook account to entice someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl to meet him for sex.

Robert M. Black, 40, of Independence was charged Wednesday with one count of first-degree attempted statutory rape and one count of attempted enticement of a child under 15. He was released today after posting a $100,000 bond.

Black did not speak during the hearing. His attorney, P.J. O'Connor, entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf. His next scheduled court date is May 5.

After the hearing, O'Connor said his client is "shaken, and is taking this matter very seriously."

Black, who is a pastor at the New Home Baptist Church, surrendered to authorities Wednesday.

According to authorities, Black used the name "Jon Still" on his Facebook account and traded messages with a detective posing as a 13-year-old girl. During the online conversations, Black allegedly discussed sex and things of a sexual nature.

He had more than 130 Facebook friends, many of whom were teenagers or young adolescents, authorities said.

On one occasion, authorities said, Black arranged a meeting in Liberty and told the "girl" not to wear underwear.

Investigators would like to know if he had contact with any area children. The Clay County Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with information or who may have communicated with Black to call 816-407-3700.
