Parishioners Remember Slain Priest My Fox Austin April 7, 2009 http://www.myfoxaustin.com/dpp/news/040709_Parishioners_Remember_Slain_Priest - Hundreds of parishioners welcomed home the body of Father Jesse Euresti, the Austin priest who was murdered in Mexico. "It hurts very much. It hurts very much," said long-time friend Frank Limon. "We just lost our king here." Father Jesse's casket was carried into the Cristo Rey Church in East Austin by his relatives. Inside the church every seat was taken as hundreds prayed at the rosary. "It's very tragic, for the community here for the neighborhood," said Limon. Father Jesse's body was found on the side of a Mexican highway on Sunday. Mexican authorities captured the accused killer, Manuel Martin Torres- Saldana on Monday. Investigators believe Torres-Saldana murdered Father Jesse in his home in Nuevo Laredo where he planned to retire, then loaded his body in a truck. Tuesday, new allegations surfaced about the relationship between Father Jesse and his accused killer. "Here we have a man who is confessing to have killed someone and in the process of that confession, then he throws in by the way we've been in a sexual relationship," said Bishop Gregory Aymond. "All I can say is that it's a great surprise to me. We will investigate that matter as we do all of those allegations and if it's true we will speak the truth and if it's not, we will clear the name of Father Jesse." Last weekend, family members told FOX 7 News Torres-Saldana murdered Father Jesse out of greed. Father Jesse's nephew, Manuel Rios said his late uncle gave Torres-Saldana money, food and clothes in return for taking care of his home. Rios claims Torres- Saldana wanted more money, and Father Jesse was going to fire him. "They don't have a death penalty over there, but he deserves it," said long-time friend Angel Rivera. Bishop Aymond said the allegations have only made it more difficult for grieving family members and parishioners. "Father Jesse is a very beautiful person that believed in prayers for everybody and of all times of need and all," said Limon. A public viewing is scheduled at Cristo Rey Church at 5pm Wednesday. A Rosary will follow at 6 pm along with the funeral mass at 7pm. A private burial will take place Thursday morning. Father Jesse Aymond was a priest at Cristo Rey Church since 2006. |
