(Map, News) - A former Redding pastor has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for molesting a young girl. David Bishop was arrested in October and charged with 47 counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under age 14. He pleaded guilty to five counts of felony child molestation in exchange for a shorter sentence approved Thursday by a Shasta County judge. Prosecutors say Bishop was facing a life sentence. Bishop had been a pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church since the early 1970s until his resignation several months ago. The church is now called the Hope Center. Authorities say Bishop fondled a girl from the time she was about 7 until she was about 12 years old.
