Group Tries to Oust Brother from Parish KENS February 8, 2009 http://www.kens5.com/latestnews/stories/KENS20090208-vo-SnapAbuse.318157bf.html Members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests were at mass Sunday trying to raise awareness of an alleged sexual offender in San Antonio. Accusations were brought up within the past year against Brother Richard A. Suttle alleging that he molested a child in the early 80s in Prescott, Arizona, when he was a principal of a school. Suttle is now in residence at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Santa Rosa Avenue, where he attends school and lives with his religious order. S.N.A.P handed out fliers about the brother as churchgoers were leaving. "We would like the priests of this church and the archbishop to find a way to get him out of this city back to Phoenix or somewhere else, but this is not a place to bring child molesters. Neither is this church," said S.N.A.P. Director Barbara Garcia Boehland. The Archdiocese of San Antonio says that they are aware of the incident in Phoenix and that, in this particular case, no letters were sent out to the congregation because Suttle only lives at the church. "Suttle is not permitted to perform public ministries within the San Antonio Archdiocese. There are four to five other priests there that monitor his movements...he is not to be in any public ministry with any children. When he leaves the house, he has to check out and check in," said Deacon Pat Rodgers. Suttle has denied the allegations against him, and an investigation by his religion order is continuing. |
