WATERBURY, Conn. - A Roman Catholic priest in Naugatuck has taken the witness stand to defend himself, saying he never had sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy in 2006 and 2007.

The Rev. Robert Grant testified Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court. He's charged with sexual assaulting the teen, known only as "C.R." in the court proceedings.

The boy took the stand this week and alleged Grant told him to drink wine and paid him for massages and sex.

The 65-year-old Grant denied the allegations and noted that he pleaded with authorities to give him a lie detector test when police first confronted him.

Closing arguments in the case are set for Thursday.

Grant is on administrative leave from St. Mary's and St. Hedwig's churches in Naugatuck.
