	New Diocese of Yakima to Lay off Eight Ministry Directors Yakima Herald-Republic January 13, 2009 http://www.yakima-herald.com/stories/10745 YAKIMA, Wash. — The economic meltdown has reached the Roman Catholic Church. Citing a significant drop in investment income as well as the costs associated with caring for retired priests, the Diocese of Yakima announced a series of budget cutbacks today, including the layoffs of eight directors of diocesan ministries. Eight more support positions — both full-time and part-time — are also being eliminated or combined to reduce costs.
