Knoxville's New Bishop Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests January 12, 2009 http://www.snapnetwork.org/snap_statements/2009_statements/011209_knoxvilles_new_bishop.htm Statement by Barbara Dorris, Outreach Director for SNAP 314 862 7688 We feel very sad for Knoxville Catholics. With the exception of proven, admitted or credibly accused pedophiles, there is perhaps no priest in the archdiocese less qualified, in our view, to be a bishop than Richard Stika. In his dealings with child sex abuse and cover up cases here, he has repeatedly shown a penchant for secrecy, reckless and half-truths. It's worth noting that on his official resume, Stika's administrative experience is three times longer than his pastoral work. He is, indeed, a bureaucrat more than a pastor. When the Vatican promotes men who have handled child sex abuse and cover ups so callously and deceitfully, it rubs more salt into the already-deep and still-fresh wounds of many abuse victims and Catholics. http://www.bishop-accountability.org/news2005_01_06/2005_01_09_Hickey_SNAPCalls.htm Contact David Clohessy National Director 314 566 9790 Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests |
