Heads of Galway Dioceses Believe Bishop of Cloyne Should Stay Galway News January 9, 2009 http://www.galwaynews.ie/6147-heads-galway-dioceses-believe-bishop-cloyne-should-stay The Archbishop of Tuam and Bishop of Clonfert, both believe Bishop John Magee should remain in his position in the diocese of Cloyne in Cork. Archbishop Michael Neary, says "it's important each diocese continues to work towards providing a safe and secure environment for children." According to today's Irish Times, Archbishop Neary says "it would not seem unreasonable" that Bishop John Magee remain in the diocese of Cloyne. This, he says, is in light of the acknowledgement by Minister Barry Andrews and the National Board for Safeguarding Children that acceptable procedures have now been put in place there. Meanwhile, Bishop of Clonfert, John Kirby says he doesn't believe Bishop Magee should resign either. Bishop Kirby says Bishop Magee should be given the opportunity to put proper structures in place. |
