Picot Pleads Not Guilty The Tribune January 7, 2009 http://tribunenb.canadaeast.com/news/article/531835 Campbellton - A former priest from Dalhousie accused of indecent assault on minor over 30 years ago appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court Monday where he pleaded not guilty. Charles Picot, 62, told Judge Steven Hutchinson that he wished to have his trial heard before a judge and jury in Campbellton Court of Queen's Bench. He was formerly represented by local lawyer Raymond Dube who told the court he could not represent Picot due to a conflict of interest. Picot has since retained the services of a Montreal-based attorney. Picot is charged with indecent assault on a minor, a 13-year-old boy, sometime in 1975 in Dalhousie where he worked as a priest. Picot returns to Campbellton Provincial Court on March 31 for a preliminary inquiry which will determine if there is enough evidence to have the matter go to trial. |
