NYC Meeting about Civil Window Bill By Patrick J. Wall Patrick J. Wall: Clergy Abuse and the Catholic Church January 2, 2008 http://patrickjwall.wordpress.com/2009/01/02/nyc-meeting-about-civil-window-bill/ I am thinking of attending in order to help answer questions people have about why civil windows are vital in the effort to expose the centuries-long cover-up of childhood sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and other religious organizations. I hope that as many NY State Survivors as possible can attend. WHEN: Tuesday, January 6 2009 6 pm to 8 pm WHERE: 80 Hanson Place Brooklyn, NYC Survivors Meeting - NY Civil Window Bill Informational Meeting Many people who were sexually abused as children in the state of New York have questions about the pending civil window bill. While the vote is not yet final, we want to invite survivors of childhood sexual abuse to a special meeting to discuss this law and how it can help survivors seek justice and accountability. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with survivors who have used the window to expose their perpetrators (and the organizations who covered up for them), ask questions about the legal process of filing a claim, address sexual abuse issues in other religious denominations, and find out what they can do to help the law pass its final hurdles. Speakers will include: Joe Byrnes - NY Snap Leader, Joelle Casteix - California SNAP leader who used civil window legislation to expose her perpetrator and gain access to more than 200 pages of documents outlining her abuse, Vicki Polin - Founder and CEO of the Awareness Center, an organization devoted to the issue of sexual abuse in the Jewish community Other leaders within the Jewish faith, (If you would like to speak at the meeting, please contact Joe Byrnes at the phone numbers below) Directions: Subways–Pacific Street stations M N R W lines Atlantic Ave stations– 1 2 4 5 lines As you get off train —ask for Hanson Place and look for 80 For more information: Joe Byrnes 718-854-8158 or 917-543-0404 Joelle Casteix - jcasteix@gmail.com |
