Cardinal Sean Brady said the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBS) will seek assurances from bishops, priests, brothers and nuns that the welfare of children remains paramount. Just before Christmas, an explosive report compiled by NBS found a top bishop took minimal action over a series of child sex abuse allegations against two of his priests. The beleaguered Bishop of Cloyne, John Magee, has faced growing pressure to resign following the scandal over his mishandling of the case.
