LORAIN — A former chaplain at Lorain Catholic High School has been sentenced to life in prison for raping an 8-year-old boy.

Joseph N. Williams, of Akron, will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to Ryan Miday, spokesman for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

The 64-year-old raped the boy in 1992 at a nursing home in Warrensville Heights, where the boy was visiting a family member. Williams already had left the church at that point and was working as a lawyer.

Williams was a priest from 1969 to 1976 and served at Lorain Catholic at some point during that period.

“We don’t know exactly when, we just know his last known position as a priest was at Lorain Catholic,” Miday said.

After a two-day trial that ended Dec. 19, a jury found him guilty of all charges, including kidnapping and three counts of rape.

During the trial, the jury learned that Williams also sexually molested a 12-year-old boy beginning in 1984 in Summit County, New Jersey and San Diego.
