  Abhaya: Hearing of Nuns Plea Deferred

Kochi, Monday, December 15, 2008: Kerala High Court today deferred the hearing of the bail plea moved by eighteen nuns alleging CBI harassment in the name of interrogation in the Sister Abhaya murder case.


In a petition filed by Mother Superior General of the S H Mount St Joseph Generalate, SH Mount , Kottayam including Annie John the Superior –General of St Joseph's Congregation, and other nuns, it was stated that under the guise of investigation in the case, they were being "harassed".

The nuns and the inmate are being compelled to go to distant places for interrogation, it was submitted. This is against the provisions of Criminal Procedure Code, petitioners said.

The congregation is running the Pious X Convent Hostel, Kottayam, of which the deceased was an inmate. The petitioners six to eight- Sr Shirly, Sr Sudeepa and Ms Achamma were present in the convent on the fateful day. Sr Shirly was the roommate of the deceased; Achamma was in charge of the hostel kitchen.
