LAWRENCE — A former Lawrence youth group director was sentenced Thursday in Douglas County District Court on a charge aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Christopher L. Cormack, 38, was sentenced to 59 months in prison and 36 months of post-release supervision. District Court Judge Robert W. Fairchild also set a $100,000 appeal bond.

The case developed after the now 24-year-old victim came to investigators and reported abuse she suffered, said District Attorney Charles Branson.

The victim met Cormack when she was about 13 years old and attending a Lawrence church where he was the youth group director. Their relationship began with kissing when she was 14 but became sexual by the time she was 15 years old, Branson said. The abuse continued for another three years.

Cormack will serve his sentence in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections.
