Cameroon: Pastor Accused of Sexual Harassment By Eugene Che AllAfrica December 4, 2008 http://allafrica.com/stories/200812040960.html Some female Christians of the International Integral Ministry, supposedly a church in the Kotto neighbourhood in Douala, are accusing their pastor of making sexual advances towards them. According to one of the Christians, Jean Louis Kinyamba, a Congolese national supposedly ministering in Cameroon, is using his status as a pastor to victimise his female Christians and lure them to his bed. His faithful, predominantly female, say they got in contact with the pastor's church because the pastor had promised them deliverance from demonic spirits. One of the victims, who preferred anonymity, said her elder sister had led her to the church during one of Kinyamba's routine prayer sessions. 'I felt that things would work well, so I joined the church,' she said. Another Christian testified that she had gone to the church because she was in urgent need of a husband. She said the pastor then scheduled daily prayer sessions for her, which she was obliged to attend.' 'I only found myself already having an affair with the pastor. I thought he would marry me,' she lamented. She testified that the pastor finally turned down her marriage proposal. 'I felt betrayed because as a Man of God, I had expected him to be faithful to me,' she said as she sobbed. Another victim confessed having turned down a similar request from the same pastor. Other victims simply remained silent on the issue. One of the Christians, one Tem, confirmed the allegations. Tem, allegedly one of those to whom the pastor promised deliverance, confessed he knew of eight women to whom the pastor has made similar promises on the same deliverance pretext. He also confirmed that the pastor's numerous prayer sessions were nothing short of pranks. However, the pastor has denied the allegations, rather referring to Christ. 'Even Christ had detractors,' he said.Another Christian backed the pastor, saying those who are pointing fingers at him are simply enemies of progress. But sources hold that the said pastor is a divorcee with three children. He is also said to have been ministering in the Kotto neighbourhood in Douala for close to 10 months now. It is unclear whether pastor Kinyamba's International Integral Deliverance Ministry is one of the churches officially authorised to function in Cameroon. Hundreds of churches exist in Douala, more than half of which are clandestine. More are known to be cropping up as Christmas draws nearer. |
