Campbellton - A former Dalhousie priest facing charges of indecent assault has had his case put over to the New Year.

Charles Picot was charged earlier this year with indecent assault on a boy while he was a priest in the town about 30 years ago.

He has yet to actually step into the Campbellton Provincial Courtroom and has had three separate adjournments.

Crown Prosecutor Suzanne Crawford said on Monday that the delays have gone on long enough when lawyer Raymond Dube appeared on behalf of Montreal-based lawyer Yves Duceppe to ask for another adjournment. Dube had advised at the last appearance that he would have to get off the record as he had a conflict which prevented him from acting for Picot.

"We are proceeding by way of indictment and he has not yet stepped into this courtroom. I would like to request that he is made to appear in January so that we can get on with this matter," said Crawford.

Judge Pierre Dube ordered Picot to come to court for his election and plea on Jan 5.
